Art is an unique messenger, crossing borders and building bridges. If implemented in an intelligent way it can be powerful weapon to catalyze social change. This is the main objective of the Favela Painting Foundation, founded by Dutch artists Dre Urhahn and Jeroen Koolhaas.

The Favela Painting Project was founded in 2005 by Jeroen Koolhaas and Dre Urhahn, better known as Haas&Hahn, who came to Rio armed with a bag of ideas and a small grant. Jeroen Koolhaas used his background as a graphic designer to create three-dimensional designs while former journalist and copywriter Dre Urhahn focused on concept and strategy. Their joint efforts yielded three enormous paintings, attracting attention from all over the world.
